Ronnie Baker Brooks kicked off his solo
career in blazing fashion Saturday night at Chord on Blues.
It was Brooks' 32 birthday Saturday, making
it an evening to celebrate.
But he was the one handing out the presents
-- his furious guitar playing.
Brooks learned the blues from one of the best
-- his father, legendary Lonnie Brooks.
After being his dad's full-time guitarist
since 1986, Ronnie recently left the nest to establish his own name.
Ronnie plays the blues in the vein of Jimi
Hendrix, and his furious guitar riffs run all through his new CD, "Golddigger."
He played heavily from the album during Saturday's show.
Showing, even at age 32, that he can still
move as sleekly as a cat, Brooks jumped on top of the bar during the show, giving the
crowd a good look at his lightning-fast hands.
Other highlights include Brooks blazing
through an intense Hendrix set, then closing the show with the gentle, "I'll See You
Again," which also closes his new CD.
For those who missed the show, Ronnie returns
to Chord on Blues on Friday, Feb. 26.
It is hard to imagine that Ronnie ever
thought of going into another career. But in high school, he did flirt with the idea
of becoming a basketball player.
We are all lucky that he chose to follow in
his dad's footsteps instead.
