Carter Caves Trip July 10th -12th , 2009

Billy Fenton

Friday: On Friday, we arrived at our campsite at night set up camp and our tents and went to bed.

Saturday: On Saturday, we woke up and had breakfast. Then the troop split up into two different groups, one went canoeing and the others went to the x cave. The canoeing group went up the river with a guide. Jack Allen said that he saw fish, turtles, and a blue heron when he was canoeing. The other group went to the x cave, which makes the shape of an x out of the passageways inside. We went through the cave with a guide that told us about the different formations. He forgot to turn on a switch so we were in the dark for a little while. Then on the way back we played miniature golf that was at our site and Mr. Burton was declared the putt-putt champion. After lunch, everyone went to Carter Cave. We were allowed to be in total darkness and saw an underground waterfall and rocks in the shape of a dragon’s head, a toilet, and a group of children at a seesaw. Later that day, some people went swimming at a pool at the site while others stayed at camp. When we went swimming, it rained but we still had a lot of fun anyway. We came back and cooked dinner and had our dessert competition. The Pedros got 1st place with their monkey bread and the Cougars got 2nd place with their chocolate cake. Then we went to bed.

Sunday: On Sunday, we woke up and had breakfast. We began to pack up while some of the younger scouts went on a nature hike to an archway of rocks. When they returned, we finished packing. We then shot potatoes out of a big slingshot that Mr. Sexton had brought with him. Then, we got on the bus and came home.
