Year Long Stock Market Game
The Kentucky Council on Economic Education is offering this year for the first time the Year Long Stock Market Game simulation, running from September 6 through April 27. The fee is $15/team.
Give your students a very realistic opportunity to trade on the market over a longer term than the usual 10-15 week Stock Market Game program. The Year Long simulation will be real-time, intra-day, and will include stocks, mutual funds, and bonds.
You can register for the Year Long Stock Market Game beginning in August up through November 15.
SUGGESTION: Since the year-long SMG includes bonds, we suggest that you use this Game to teach the concept of a diversified portfolio, with stock, mutual fund, and bond purchases. The 5 stock/bond/mutual fund diversification rule applies, in that a total of 5 purchases of different securities must be purchased, i.e., 2 stocks, 2 mutual funds, 1 bond, OR 4 stocks and 1 bond, etc.
AWARDS: Awards will include t-shirts, certificates, for all first place regional winners and trophies for the 1st and 2nd place in the state.
Portfolios can be used by more than one team (particularly if you are in a trimester schedule), passing along the portfolios from one class to another. If you have a winning team it will be up to you to designate the winners and how the prizes will be shared.
