Honolulu airport

Open-air as always.

Some information:

Hawaii is 5 hours (winter)
6 hours (summer) behind Eastern Time.

No Daylight Saving Time.
It gets dark around 7 year-round.

Verizon BlackBerry works
great everywhere. (voice/data)

I was Googling Fort Elizabeth
while I was touring it.

No extra charges for National Plan.
I assume AT&T the same.

Honolulu is a big city.

Similar to Minneapolis in size
and very clean and safe.

Allow 1-1/4 hours Waikiki
to Airport / Pearl Harbor.

Driving the Big Island Belt Road is about the same
as driving the perimeter of Connecticut.

You could do it in a day
but you’d miss so much!

Hilo is rainy with volcanoes and tropical gardens
Kona is dry with beaches and beautiful coastal drives.

Stay a couple nights in each.

Lahaina is fascinating on Maui
And the Hana Highway is a delight.

Only regret I didn’t have time
for the Haleakala Crater.

Kauai has the most compact
version of spectacular scenery.

Stay in the south, you can
get to anything in an hour.

This settled 3 misconceptions
I had of Hawaii:

#1. "It's too hot."

<< Hawaii open-air convention center.

#2. "It's too expensive."

<< Kauai Sands Motel ($54/night).

#3. "There's nothing to do
 but lie on the beach."

<< The Lava Show

(+ 350 other pictures!)

Aloha!
