I believe in one
God: revealed in the Scriptures as our eternal creator, redeemer, and
sustainer, and from the very lips of our Lord named in the personal and
relational terms of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who is love.
I praise God the
Father: who created the universe and keeps it in being, who made daughters
and sons to share in the divine joy, empowering us to live together in
justice and peace, caring for all of creation and each other, and who
welcomes us home with open arms.
I proclaim God the
Son, Jesus the Christ, our brother: born of the virgin Mary, by the power
of the Holy Spirit, who became one of us, sharing in our life and in our
death. He made known God’s compassion and mercy, giving hope and declaring
forgiveness of sin, offering healing and wholeness to all. By his death on
the cross and by his resurrection, Christ has triumphed over all which may
separate us from God and one another. Jesus is Lord of life and of all
creation.
I trust God the
Holy Spirit: who like a mother gives birth to believers; nourishes the
life of the Church catholic; unites us to Christ and to one another; and
who brings us repentance and assures us of forgiveness. The Spirit guides
us in our understanding of Scripture, continually renews us in the
sacraments, and calls us to serve God in the world.
I assent the Church
is the Body of Christ: through the Spirit made manifest in its members;
bound to the glorification of God through Word and Sacraments,
commissioned to be reconciled to God and to go out into the world as a
reconciling and transformative community. The Church catholic, as the
communion of saints, is called to be the incarnate Mother of believers,
birthing, nurturing and supporting, and teaching the Way of Christ, as
passed down to us through the diverse prophets, apostles, saints, and
martyrs.
I rejoice in the gift of eternal life:
we have sure and certain hope of resurrection through Christ, and we look
for his coming again to judge the world. Then all things will be made new;
and creation will rejoice, in one communion, worshiping the Father,
through the Son, in the power of the Spirit, one God, blessed forever.
Amen.
