Troop 40 Venture Crew Winter Trip
Since being in the venture crew wouldn’t mean much if we didn’t go on trips by ourselves, we opted to spend four days in Muskegon, Michigan. It seemed like a great idea with the prospect of activities from luging to cross-country skiing. We left the scout house after school on Friday and drove to a hotel to spend the night. The next morning when we arrived at our cabin we were pleasantly surprised to find three bedrooms, two TVs, a Jacuzzi and a washer and dryer.
After checking out the cabin we went on an adventure to the luge course. We all moved on to the big run fairly quickly, except Lawson of course, but he eventually made it. After several attempts almost everyone had made it to the bottom. But two of us (Todd and myself) couldn’t quite make it, but we had another day to go.
The next day, Sunday, we had to kill some time before the open luge so we went cross-country skiing. After getting back from the 2.5K, Lawson and Todd decided to go back out and try the tougher trail while the rest of us played ice hockey. When open luge came around I got the chance to redeem myself. We all got a couple of runs in before the luge competition.
We planned on just going to see the dunes and walking out on Lake Michigan, but on the way back to the cabin we got a little sidetracked. We decided to check out the sledding hills to decide if it was worth going out to buy sleds. However, they were so good we couldn’t wait to get sleds so we just started sliding down all the hills on our stomachs. The final fun adventure of our trip was on the way to dinner. Mr. Hardesty and Mr. Hayden kept bringing up the fact that Todd couldn’t luge, but in the words of Hank. “Mr. Hayden couldn’t find his way out of a paper bag.” But, after an hour and a half or so we finally found somewhere to eat. The entire trip was great and I’m sure everyone had a great time.
