Accessing the Windows XP Update Catalog for IT professionals

I’ve heard that there is a special Windows Update site for IT professionals that will allow you to download Windows XP updates for manual distribution over a network. Is that correct? If so, can you tell me the address to that site?

Martin

Yes, there is such a site. It’s called the Windows Update Catalog and you can access it right from within Windows Update. To do so, simply connect to the Windows Update site as you normally do. Then, in the left pane, select the Personalize Windows Update command under the Other Option heading. When you see the Personalize You Windows Update Experience window, select the Display The Link To The Windows Update Catalog Under See Also check box. As soon as you do, the Save Settings button becomes active and you must click it.

When you do, you’ll see a new link titled Windows Update Catalog appear underneath the See Also heading in the left pane. This link will now be available each time you access the Windows Update site.

A MultiLink alternative

I read your article "Increasing your bandwidth with MultiLink" on using MultiLink to double your bandwidth by using multiple modems and a Multilink account. Unfortunately, I discovered that my ISP doesn’t support MultiLink. Is there another method that I can use to double my bandwidth by using multiple modems?

Chris

Yes, there is an alternative method provided by a company called MidPoint that offers an Internet connection sharing software package called MidPoint 5.0 that among other things will allow you use a feature called Modem Teaming to double your bandwidth. You can purchase and download the program on the MidPoint site.

You can learn more about MidPoint 5.0’s Modem Teaming feature by reading a review of the package on Stroud’s CWSApps site.
