- Fig. 1 shows the start with Uke holding Nage's lapel. This is a very dangerous situation that Nage should avoid in a real situation.
- Fig. 2 shows the Kuta Entry Strike. As this strike is made Nage's left hand grabs Uke's Gi or arm near the elbow.
- Fig. 3 shows the 1st Tenkan step. The step should have put Nage into position for the Entry Strike and the step also positions Nage's body so that Uke cannot step forward to keep Uke's balance. At the same time Nage's right arm helps lead Uke's arm down.

- Fig. 4 shows the end of the 2nd Tenkan step. At this point Nage can shift into almost any technique. Nikkyo is very popular.
- In Fig. 5 Nage has continued the Tornado Twist and Uke is on the ground. Nage will continue twisting to flip Uke over onto Uke's stomach.
