Irimi Nage

Example 1, Irimi Nage Ushiro

  1. Fig. 1 shows the start of the movement.

  2. In Fig. 2 as Uke starts to strike Nage steps in with an initial Kuta strike. Uke's arm is in the way so Nage contacts Uke's arm.

  3. Fig. 3 shows Nage continuing to step in and delivering a blow to Uke's head or neck while leading Uke's arm out and down.

  4. In Fig. 4 Nage has completed the Ushiro step behind Uke and again strikes Uke's Neck with an inside forearm strike.

  5. Fig 5 shows Nage taking a large step back bringing Uke with Nage. It is important at this stage to control Uke so that Uke cannot turn into Nage with a vicious attack. Nage is controlling Uke by tightly holding Uke against Nage.

  6. Fig. 6 shows Nage is at the end of bringing Uke back. Nage's arm is held high leading Uke's head back in an awkward position. This breaks Uke's balance to the rear and gives Nage good control of Uke. At the same time Nage's left foot pulls back giving room for Nage's right leg to enter for the throw.

  7. Fig. 7 shows Nage stepping in for the throw and Uke falling.

  8. Fig. 8 shows Uke on the ground with Nage controlling Uke to turn Uke over.

  9. In Fig. 9 Nage steps to the other side of Uke with the leg towards Uke and simultaneously turning Uke over so that Nage is less vulnerable to attack by Uke.

  10. Fig. 10 shows Nage at the end of the step around to execute the arm pin.

  11. Fig. 11 shows the arm pin.
