Aiki Techniques

Technique Classes

Aikido techniques are normally performed with either Elbow Up or Elbow Down. A few Other Techniques do not fit into this system. The Techniques are as follows:

  1. Elbow Down

    1. Waki Gatame (Waki Gatame Base)

    2. Kotegaeshi (Waki Gatame Base)

    3. Kaiten Nage (Waki Gatame Base)

    4. Ude Garami (Waki Gatame Base)

    5. Higi Kime (Waki Gatame Base)

    6. Tenchinage

    7. Shiho Nage

  2. Elbow Up

    1. Ikkyo (Ikkyo Base)

    2. Nikkyo (Ikkyo Base)

    3. Sankyo (Ikkyo Base)

    4. Yankyo (Ikkyo Base)

    5. Gokyo

  3. Other Techniques

    1. Irimi Nage

    2. Ushiro Ryokatatori

    3. Leg Dive

    4. Kokyu Nage

    5. Figure Four

These are the basic techniques. There are a few others I use. Several of these have Koshinage (hip throw) versions which are considered basic. All of these are done with the same footwork from almost every attack. The footwork gets Nage into position from which the technique is executed. Sometimes the position is deeper than other times and either foot can lead but the idea is to have a very simple system that can be easily learned.
