  1. Fig. 1 shows the starting position for dynamic practice. Nage and Uke are spaced so that their arms will not quite reach.

  2. Fig. 2 shows the Kuta Entry Strike as Uke attacks.

  3. Fig. 3 shows Nage take Uke's arm in an X to start sweeping the arm down for Shiho Nage.

  4. Fig. 4 shows Nage taking the 1st Irimi step and ducking under Uke's arm.

  5. Fig. 5 shows the end of the 2nd Irimi step and Nage coming out from under the arm.

  6. Fig. 6 shows Nage dropping Uke with the Shiho Nage. From here everything is standard Shiho Nage. Nage throws Uke, turns Uke over and pins Uke.

  1. Fig. 7 shows the position for a dynamic start. Nage and Uke are far enough that their hands do not quite touch.

  2. Fig. 8 shows Nage delivering the Kuta strike by stepping towards Uke and to Uke's back side. The strike is intercepted by Uke's arm so Nage goes into the Shiho Nage throw.

  3. Fig. 9 shows the end of the 1st Tenkan step with Nage going under Uke's arm. The secret to making this work is Nage's body moving through space.

  4. Fig. 10 shows the end of the second Tenkan Step. Nage has gone under Uke's arm.

  5. Fig. 11 shows the end of the Tornado Twist. Nage is already turning Uke over for the Ude Garami Pin.
