Year Long Stock Market Game
Sept 2, 2008- April 24, 2009
The Kentucky Council on Economic Education is offering this year for the first time the Year Long Stock Market Game simulation, running from September 2, 2008 - April 24, 2009. The fee is $10/team.
Give your students a very realistic opportunity to trade on the market over a longer term than the usual 10-15 week Stock Market Game program. The Year Long simulation will be real-time and will include stocks, mutual funds, and bonds.
You can register for the Year Long Stock Market Game beginning in August up through November 15.
SUGGESTION: Since the year-long SMG includes bonds, we suggest that you use this Game to teach the concept of a diversified portfolio, with stock, mutual fund, and bond purchases. The 5 stock/bond/mutual fund diversification rule applies, in that a total of 5 purchases of different securities must be purchased, i.e., 2 stocks, 2 mutual funds, 1 bond, OR 4 stocks and 1 bond, etc.
REQUIREMENT: Teacher/advisors must agree to submit at least 3 entries into the Fall or Spring InvestWrite essay competition. Copies of essays sent to InvestWrite must also be emailed to KCEE.
AWARDS: Because the year-long SMG is new and the same cost as the semester long game, we will not be offering regional prizes in this competition. State awards will be the same: $300 - first; $200 - second; $100 - third, and t-shirts for top ten teams.
Portfolios can be used by more than one team (particularly if you are in a trimester schedule), passing along the portfolios from one class to another. If you have a winning team it will be up to you to designate the winners and how the prizes will be shared.
