ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONTESTS

Gallery of Kentucky Entrepreneurs Contest:  Clark Group and KCEE Celebrate Entrepreneurship Week (February 24-March 3) with the kickoff of the Gallery of Kentucky Entrepreneurs contest for middle/high school students.  Individual students are invited to submit original written profiles (1,000 maximum word limit - photographs encouraged) or dynamic multimedia profiles about a local entrepreneur. Participants are encouraged to incorporate video, animation, and any other multimedia techniques that may enhance the design of the profile, but length of videos should be limited to three (3) minutes. Heavy emphasis will be placed on originality, and proper use of Kentucky Almanac and other resources.

The first 20 teachers who register their class to participate will receive a free classroom set (10 copies) of Clark's Kentucky Almanac-Premier Edition!  Teachers must register between February 19 and March 16, 2007.  Student entry deadline: Friday April 30, 2007.

NCEE Gallery of Entrepreneurs Contest: The NCEE is hosting a nationwide DRAWING for young people in grades K-12. In concert with their class, students of teachers who register, may submit entries celebrating entrepreneurs from the state where their school is located. Contest winners will see the entrepreneur they chose featured in the Gallery of Entrepreneurs website created to honor Entrepreneurs who have contributed to society both economically and in a socially responsible manner. 

Prizes of $50 will be awarded to each of the 50 entries selected to appear on the Gallery of Entrepreneurs website sponsored by the National Council on Economic Education Deadline: All entries must be mailed or emailed before February 20, 2007 so that they are received in time for the drawing on February 24, 2007. ENTREPRENEURSHIP FAIRS and PD at Stonewall Elementary in Lexington:

From Classroom to Boardroom: Entrepreneurs Emerge (grades 4-8) :  http://kcee.org/modules/msunits.htm hosted on the KCEE E-Learning Center, is a packet of resources for holding your own Entrepreneurship Fair, from parent letters, to business proposal forms, budget forms, advertising activities and more. From Classroom to Boardroom is the culminating activity based on an economics unit written by Teresa Moore, an Economic Education Advocate and 5th grade teacher at Stonewall Elementary in Lexington.

Teresa Moore and Janice Duncans' classes at Stonewall will be holding their Entrepreneurship Fair on Thursday March 22, 2007, from 12:00-2:00 and 5:30 -7:30pm in the gym (3215 Cornwall Drive, Lexington, KY 40503). 

Professional Development Opportunity:  FREE! Teresa and Janice will be offering a two-hour Professional Development to teachers on the day of the Entrepreneurship Fair, March 22, from 5:30-7:30, to learn how to set up a fair, review/receive the curriculum, and visit/chat with the young entrepreneurs at the fair.  Register online.  Contact Teresa Moore, teresa.moore@fayette.kyschools.us or Janice.Duncan@fayette.kyschools.us for more info.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP FAIRS and PD sponsored by Murray State Center

Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker, Entrepreneurial Project:  (grades 4-12) :  The Murray State University Center for Economic Education will sponsor its annual Entrepreneurial Fair on campus May 15, 2007.

Students who complete their entrepreneurial project can:
• learn all economic and consumerism core content items
• demonstrate increased initiative and self-confidence
• acquire practical skills and learn to solve problems
• learn about real world business
• expand their vocabulary, improve their social skills, and apply core content

Professional Development Opportunity:
When: Thursday, March 1, 2007 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm
Where: Ponderosa Steak House, 127 U.S. Highway 68 (Exit 47 off Purchase Parkway. Travel east on Highway 68) Draffenville, Kentucky

To help teachers prepare for the Fair, this workshop will provide training and materials needed to participate. There are several financial incentives for the teachers and students to participate.

Each workshop participant will receive
• Opportunity to receive a $75 teacher stipend if they offer an Entrepreneurial Fair in their classroom or school. An additional $3 per business teacher stipend to organize their Fair. A $3 per business budget for their students.
• Opportunity for classroom assistance to help organize the Fair.
• Hands-on training using the FREE curriculum that has been aligned with the Kentucky Core Content in Economics, Consumerism, and Math
• Certificate for three hours of professional development credit
• Buffet dinner at the Ponderosa Steak House
