Professional Development Opportunities

The Kentucky Council and its Centers offer training for teachers through professional development offerings, approved by the Kentucky Department of Education.  These professional development workshops focus on KCEE curricula that have been aligned with the Core Content and can guide teachers as they integrate economics, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy into subjects like, social studies, math, arts and humanities, practical living, language arts, science, business, and economics.

Feb 11 - Apr 1 Taking the Eeek Out of Economics:
Economics in the Elementary Classroom

This is an online professional development offered through e-Learning Kentucky.  This PD will introduce elementary classroom teachers to basic economic concepts and principles that can be used in everyday lessons and activities.  Most importantly, the course will present economic vocabulary that can be used in everyday classroom interactions. The course will explore the economic concepts included in the Kentucky Program of Studies and Kentucky Core Content for Assessment through interactive, hands-on lessons, activities, and resources that can be immediately integrated into elementary classroom instruction. As a final product, participants will create an economics webliography.  Fee for 6-week course is $25.00.

Toyota Workshop!FREE!  Economics & Entrepreneurship: Operating a Classroom Business in the Elementary and Middle School
@ Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Georgetown

 This workshop will provide the perfect tool for operating a simple classroom business in grades K-8.  Each participant will receive a copy of the curriculum which includes five chapters of engaging teaching activities, lesson plans and business projects to prove that running a business can be both fun and profitable.  An annotated bibliography of 45 fiction and non-fiction children's books is included to help integrate important language arts content into the activities.
