In my home country of Ukraine, I have been involved in seminars and in the writing of professional papers on
the subject of methods of teaching mathematics. I have experimented with many methods of teaching, which I have
combined and refined in order to effectively and quickly pass on knowledge to my students. My goals are that my
students develop a powerful interest in mathematics, a deep knowledge, and the ability to think logically.
In order to achieve my goals, I must learn the knowledge of each student. I must interact with each of my students
individually. I must have each student answer my questions so that I am able to determine the material for which
that student needs to allocate time for study.
During lectures, I attempt to instill an active participation by my students. I ask rhetorical questions which
will help to develop their ability to think logically and creatively. I ask direct questions of my students so
that they will not become passive listeners. I use both inductive and deductive methods of teaching and look to
my students' advancement to determine when to use each method. I attempt to show the relationship between mathematical
and philosophical laws. I hope to develop the interest of my students through narratives from the history of mathematics.
Also, I attempt to show my students the penetration of and need for mathematics in many different areas of study
and professional work.
