Louisville Aikikai, the oldest Aikido dojo in Kentucky, was founded as an ASU (Aikido Schools of Ueshiba) dojo by Dale Matthews in 1980. The current location of the dojo was dedicated by Mitsugi Saotome Shihan.
ASU was founded by Saotome Shihan after he came to Florida in 1975. For the last fifteen years of O Sensei's life, Saotome Shihan lived as the founder's personal disciple. When Saotome Shihan left for America, he was a senior instructor at world Aikido headquarters. He now teaches and gives seminars at ASU dojos in the United States and around the world.
